Security Updates Discontinued for WordPress Versions 4.1 to 4.6

Starting in July 2025, the WordPress Security Team will officially stop providing security updates for WordPress versions 4.1 through 4.6.

These versions were originally released nine or more years ago, and today, over 99% of WordPress sites are running newer versions. As a result, this change is unlikely to impact most users.

If you’re unsure which version your site is running, you can check by logging into your WordPress dashboard. If your version is outdated, you’ll see an update notification like this:

Additionally, your current version number can be found in the “At a Glance” section of the dashboard:

It’s important to remember that only the latest version of WordPress receives active support. While the Security Team has previously provided updates to older versions as a courtesy, this will no longer be the case for versions 4.1 through 4.6.
